Long Pond Series
The Long Pond Series of paintings carries forward my interest in alchemy and abstraction from the previous body of work. Moving from Philadelphia to the natural surroundings of the Berkshires played a significant role in this series. Being immersed in this stunning environment has taught me to breathe deeply and to visualize the environment in my painting. As I relaxed and become part of the lush landscape, my painting shifted. The region’s light, air and color are slowly seeped into my painting practice. As I walk to the studio in the early morning the dew wakes me with phthalo blue and sap green. The crisp light influences the color and texture of the painting surfaces.
These abstract paintings are created with oil paint on stretched silk. Many layers of paint are poured. In between pours, the imagery is edited using brushes and sandpaper. The painting surfaces physically change from one side of the painting to the other. As the viewer studies the paintings, smaller landscapes/moments unfold within the larger painting.
